Welcome to GrapeMojo, the premier online wine journal

You are visiting the newest (and we hope best) wine scrapbook and organizer for wine lovers, enthusiasts and connoisseurs. Now you have a way to organize and share all of your wine notes and labels, plus find wineries and shops who make and sell those wines.

This idea was conceived of by Paul D. Gurney in 2005. We built this website because we couldn't find an easier way to remember the wines that we liked and disliked, or where to buy them after the first "lucky find". We weren't interested in the few websites out there that ranked wines by "scores" (since someone elses' point ranking can't ever translate well to our own personal tastes). We wanted something better, more personal, that connected wine lovers all over the world – to each other and to the wine makers themselves.

And so here it is: easy-to-use, you can upload your favorite wine labels (from digital photos or scans) and write notes about them, from any computer, anywhere in the world (while on vacation, say). You can access your notes – to print them, update them, and share them – at any time. And you can read comments on wines by other people and experts, invite comments on yours or leave comments in other members' Journals.

Incentives
This site is free to use for non-commercial users (our members), and will always be free for anyone who signs up now!

Vineyards, restaurants and wine shops have Journals like members do – they can upload their wines (newest, best, fastest sellers, special deals, etc.) for you to discover, and they can maintain photo gallerys and blogs for you to learn about the world of wine. This community aspect of GrapeMojo is what get's us the most excited; we aspire to GrapeMojo being a worldwide community of people interested in wine, sharing their knowledge and passion in one global network.

Philosophy
We think it's important to connect wine lovers with wine makers and sellers in a meaningful, real-world way, by physically showing you where they are located, by metro area. We won't, say, force you to see only wines from one online seller. Rather, we'll guide you to local sellers, who are staffed by wine experts who are passionate about wine. Bricks-and-mortar? You bet… because wine, after all, is a vine-and-dirt affair.

Now you can find the places that carry your favorite wines, get to know their resident experts, and build a real community.

This website taps into the collaborative power of the Internet; this is a socially-assembled site. The more your friends and others participate, the larger the number of available wines to browse and collect, so eventually you may no longer need to upload your own scans or photos; just choose from labels someone else already uploaded. We envision a worlwide site where every vineyard and winemaker on earth is represented.

What about my data?
Many people are concerned that once they've accumulated lots of data over time with an online website, if it goes away, they'll lose everything. Don't worry: we give you ways to export all of your journal notes to PDF, including pictures. We won't lock in you in.

Hey! It's web 2.0 — is this web-service free?
Yes, totally free for our members. While everyone is more likely to respect the community if they are paying for membership (freeloaders and abusers don't join up if they have to pay), we recognize that "information wants to be free".

Of course, this site costs money to develop and operate (that's business 1.0). But one thing we will never do is show text or banner ads to support the site, which is how most social websites fund themselves. We want to be different, relevant and impartial. Thus, only businesses who have a journal pay a membership fee.
